Founder & Owner - Forestry, Fuels and Fire, LLC
Forrest grew up in the logging camps of Southeast Alaska and the Tongas National Forest.
His father has worked as a Forester for 32 years, so he was steeped in the science and education of forest management and the outdoors his entire life.
After moving to interior Alaska and graduating High School, Forrest went straight from classroom to wilderness classroom at the Alaska Wildland Fire Academy.
After completing the Academy, he worked on a twenty-man wildfire hand-crew, the Tanana Chiefs, for the next 6 years. He worked his way up from starting as a digger to running a chainsaw, becoming a qualified helicopter crewmember, and eventually he was signed off as a qualified crew boss.
In his 6th year of being a career firefighter, he left the Tanana Chiefs and got hired on as a Wild Land Fire Technician II for the State of Alaska.
Over the next 3 years, Forrest was signed off as an Engine Boss, Helicopter Manager, and Incident Commander 4.
At the end of his 4th year with the State of Alaska, he decided that the very small town of Tok was not enough for him. So he tendered his resignation, packed his truck, and moved to Billings, Montana.
There he did some odd jobs through the winter until fire season hit again. Doing some part time work with the Montana DNRC (Department of Natural Resources and Conservation), he finally decided that fighting fires after they had already begun, was just not enough. He wasn’t making the difference he knew he could. More could be done to prevent the devastation from fire and it could be done more efficiently at that.
So he bought his first machine, came up with a name, and began his own business of Forestry Fuels and Fire!
When Forrest is not running his machinery, fighting a fire, or clearing land to beautify his client’s property, he can be found rafting the beautiful rivers of Montana. His other interests include hunting, fly fishing, and smoking meats, and coming up with new recipes.
